Partners for Children
The parties in this
collaboration are the New York State Board of Regents/New York State Education
Department. the United Way of New York State, and the New York State Department
of Health.
Vision
-
All children should have an
equal opportunity to reach their full potential.
-
In their early years (prenatal-age 6)
all children should achieve optimal physical
and emotional health, social skills and strong cognitive and educational
development-elements essential to starting school with the foundation needed
to succeed.
-
In middle and late childhood and
adolescence, the foundation needs to be sustained to help youth reach
appropriate development milestones, graduate from high school and make sound
decisions about their futures.
-
In this effort, family, school,
community, and government stakeholders must work together to assure the
health and educational development of their children.
Goals
-
Develop a statewide network of
programs focused on prevention as well as early detection and treatment, to
ensure that all children are healthy and enter school ready to learn.
-
Obtain commitment to long-term
leadership and collaboration by United Way; State and local government; and
the education, health, human services, labor and business communities.
-
Increase partnerships of parents,
community-based organizations, teachers and administrators, and health care
providers to address children's needs for health, education, and human
services.
-
Support policies and funding that
provide the most beneficial services to children with disabilities in school
and community settings.
-
Increase public awareness about the
needs of young children, their parents and other care givers.
Emphasize the proven effectiveness of linkages among education, health and
human services.
