NEWS RELEASE
SEFA Campaign Underway
The State Employees Federated Appeal (SEFA) has officially kicked off across the North Country. The annual campaign targets state employees and provides them with an opportunity to pledge contributions to a wide variety of local, national and international charities. The United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties, Inc. coordinates the SEFA campaign in Hamilton, Franklin, Essex and Clinton counties. The campaign is overseen and operated by a regional SEFA committee comprised of representatives from state agencies, state facilities, unions and management from throughout the four counties. The committee recently met at the United Way to officially kick off the annual campaign and to review guidelines and strategies. There are approximately 7,188 state employees in the four county area. Last year the SEFA committee was successful in raising $191,022.25 among state employees for participating charities and federations. Wayne Rabideau is an employee at Altona Correctional Facility and member of the Public Employee Federation (PEF) Union. He serves as the committee chair and loaned executive for the campaign. Rabideau said “state employees in this area are very generous and caring people and our committee does a great job raising much needed dollars for important purposes”. This year, the committee, which also includes representatives from charities, is hoping to raise over $200,000. John Bernardi, Executive Director of the United Way said, “The SEFA campaign is a great asset to our community and beyond. I am very proud to be a part of it and to work with a great group of people”.
