Carrier Alert is a FREE
protection plan developed by the U.S. Postal Service, the National Association
of Letter Carriers and the United Way of the Adirondack Region to give older adults and homebound persons who
live alone the major ingredient often missing from their lives...security.
Participants are assured that their homes or apartments are watched by the
letter carrier, who is trained to summon help if signs of need are seen.
That means that folks who live alone can enjoy the comfort of knowing that
protective services, enjoyed by other citizens, are alert to their needs and
close at hand for them, too.
Because Carrier Alert uses existing services, costs are kept low.
Participants pay nothing. At the same time, well-trained police, medical
and social services are deployed more effectively to answer the security needs
of growing numbers of older adults.
For more information about the Carrier Alert Program, contact
the United Way Office or The Crisis Center of Clinton, Essex and Franklin
Counties at 561-2330.
If
living alone worries you, the Carrier Alert program can offer you the comfort
of knowing that someone who visits your home regularly can call for help if
you need it. The free service has been developed especially for older adults
and the homebound—people who may have difficulty reaching vital services
because of an accident or sudden illness. Check with your local post office to
see if Carrier Alert is offered in your neighborhood.
