PLATTSBURGH, NY (February 27, 2007) The United Way of Clinton & Essex Counties, Inc. held its Annual Meeting and Recognition Dinner on Monday evening, February 26, 2007 at the Comfort Inn Ballroom in Plattsburgh.

 

John Bernardi, Executive Director, welcomed everyone and reviewed the mission and purpose of the organization. Joyce Rafferty, Board President, called the business portion of the meeting to order. The final campaign results were accepted and approved. Shirley O’Connell, Chair of the nominating committee presented nominations for three new members and a slate of officers. New Board members elected were Jonathan Whitehouse of Northern Insuring, Tom Scozzafava, Town of Moriah Supervisor and Randy Douglas, Town of Jay Supervisor. Joyce Rafferty, Vice President of Finance at CVPH Medical Center was re-elected to Board President. Kirk Stallsmith, Vice President of Manufacturing at Georgia Pacific was elected as Board Vice President. Anne Cutaiar, Vice President of Key Bank was elected as Board Treasurer and Linda Parks, self employed entrepreneur was re-elected as Board Secretary.

 

Out going Board Member Robert Frenyea was honored for his many years of dedicated service as Board Treasurer. Mike Mannix, retired Executive Director, recognized John Masella for the outstanding job he did as the campaign chair.  Masella then recognized the Division Chairs of the campaign team.  

 

Bonnie Black of Behavioral Health Services North was the recipient of the Dorothy and Alan Booth Distinguished Citizen Award. The award was accepted by her husband Roger Black because Bonnie was in Nicaragua volunteering with the Mission of Hope.

 

The evening ended with a tribute to Mike Mannix who retired last December after serving as the Executive Director for 24 years. Bruce Carlin of Media Central, showed the crowd a video presentation depicting aspects of Mike’s personal and professional life. Joyce Rafferty and Shirley O’Connell also spoke about Mike’s outstanding service to the community and presented him with gifts. Mr. Mannix then remarked that his success was largely due to the many friends and volunteers who have worked diligently over the years for the United Way of Clinton and Essex Counties, Inc. When he finished speaking, the audience of over 150 people gave him a standing ovation.
